Outlets, plugs and other wiring devices play a fundamental role of delivering electric power for our daily lives and industry.
Wiring device transmit electric power so it can be turned into light, heat and energy, enriching people's lives.
In this way, wiring devices are very close and convenient for us, but, if broken or improperly used, they may cause dangerous accidents.
For this reason, high safety and comfort with particular attention to quality and workability are required.

Diversification of power supply environments and facilities creates various requirements for wiring devices. Since this equipment works with electricity, the demand for improvement of workability and safety of wiring devices has a great weight by itself.
When developing our products, American Denki pays close attention to demands of our customers during visits of our sales personnel or during exhibitions, and we are developing products with consideration of feasibility and superiority. Furthermore, since we have a consistent production system in our company, from mold manufacturing, parts manufacturing (resin/metal), assembly, product inspection, packaging and shipping (sales), we can incorporate into product development with recommendations from viewpoints of each process.

In order to minimize impact on the global environment and basing on the slogan "Harmony between people and environmental conservation", American Denki is actively pursuing application of materials which are safe and suitable for people and environment. We are also striving to reduce the usage of environmentally hazardous substances.
As a part of the environmental hazardous substance reduction activities performed recently, American Denki is working on elimination of harmful substances specified by RoHS2 directive, together with switching to environmentally friendly alternative materials.

※1 About RoHS1
RoHS is an abbreviation for Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment. It is a directive that specifies hazardous substances contained in electrical and electronic equipment and restricts the use of substances. The main purpose of RoHS is to minimize the risks to the environment and human health at all stages from production and disposal of electrical and electronic products. RoHS is a guideline adopted in 15 countries of the EU (European Union) in January 2003, and the use of specific substances is restricted for products released in the EU area after July 2006.

In January 2013, the old directive was abolished and replaced with RoHS2 directive. Since then, in addition to the six substances previously regulated by RoHS, four new phthalates have been added. There are a total of 10 restricted substances, and the governance will start on July 22, 2019.

Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
Previously, screws, receptacle mounting brackets, cord grips and other metal parts and products were subjected to surface treatment (plating) by hexavalent chromium. Starting from April 2005, the treatment by hexavalent chromium was completely terminated, replaced by treatment by trivalent chromium.
We are moving into direction of replacing mild steel used for some outlet brackets which require surface treatment by hexavalent chromium with stainless steel, which eliminates the need for surface treatment.
Starting from April 2004, the lead-based solder used for joining metal parts of waterproof (dust and jet-proof) plates and waterproof (dust and jet-proof) flanged inlets was completely replaced by lead-free solder.
Starting from July 2006, copper alloy containing cadmium as impurities which was used in some copper alloy parts, was replaced by cadmiumless copper alloy.
Nylon resin (PA) and polycarbonate resin (PC) are widely used as a material for main body and enclosure (cover) of products.
Both types of resin exhibit a well-balanced combination of heat resistance, oil resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and tracking resistance, and are among resins which are often called engineering plastics.
Since this resin is relatively expensive, it is often used in only parts of bodies of domestic wiring devices but our company regards safety as the most important factor so we use it not only for main body, but also for enclosures (housing).
Also, this resin is a flame-retardant material (UL94 V-0 grade) with self-extinguishing which does not contain hazardous substances, it possess a high level of safety. Addition to this the largest advantage of the thermoplastic resin, its recyclability, this resin can be called an environmentally friendly material.
Blade receiver used in receptacle contain some amount of phosphor bronze. The phosphor bronze is a copper alloy with excellent properties obtained by deoxidizing it with adding phosphorus to the bronze to prevent oxidation.
Since the phosphor bronze is characterized by high strength, excellent spring properties and repeatability, is used as the most important element of the device, maintaining stable contact with blades. This material can provide a high level of safety to customers who place particular emphasis on function.
American Denki implements product environmental assessment during product development as a part of the environmentally friendly product creation process.
This product environmental assessment is the process of investigating the safety, resources, environmental impact during product development, from material procurement to production, distribution, use, disposal, and recycling, and of improving each stage with advanced evaluation in order to reduce the environmental impact. This system was established in 2006 by Japan Electrical Wiring System Industries Association and is used by our company in an original arrangement.

We assigned grades as evaluation criteria for each of these evaluation points, assigned passing grade for combined evaluation criterion, and mark environmentally-friendly products that clear the passing grade as environmentally conscious products, or eco products.
In addition, we established an original logo mark for certified products, created basing on the motif of twist-locking outlet receptacle, which is also our main product. The logo mark is displayed on our home page and promotion materials.
